Problem:
The future of anti-submarine warfare data gathering and analysis will reflect the operational requirements to pivot towards digitising the North Atlantic.
Autonomous and lean-crewed systems gathering persistent air, surface, and subsurface data are a crucial part of this transition. The ability to gather this data from secure sensors is the first step. Potential increases in data gathered will require analysis and triaging for effective decision-making.
AI and Machine Learning tools are needed to do this autonomously, filtering data to highlight contacts of interest to be passed on to remote operators.
Solution:
KraitSense is SEA’s scalable, modular, and small-footprint sonar solution that includes its industry-renowned towed array and intelligent processing software used for gathering acoustic data underwater.
Mind Foundry NIGHTINGALE is a software application, powered by Machine Learning that triages underwater acoustic data autonomously for analysis by remote operators.
The combination of Mind Foundry’s software and SEA’s KraitSense hardware enables autonomous detection and classification of contacts of interest.
Results:
Mind Foundry NIGHTINGALE can operate on KraitSense data to identify contacts of interest. After successfully ingesting the KraitSense dataset, NIGHTINGALE:
- Generated high-resolution LOFARgrams using its conventional signal processing algorithms.
- Applied denoising and tonal detection Machine Learning models to the LOFARgrams to extract tonals.
- Automatically identified the extracted tonals and then mapped them to harmonics and component signatures.
This work brought two UK companies together to develop next-generational anti-submarine warfare capability.
